It’s amazing what weight just one mean word had on my entire life. Looking back I realize that I never actually smelt of fish. But because I believed that I must have done it changed me forever.

As a full time musician, and someone who has a very active role in organising and holding concerts myself, I think it's really important that we try and promote advance ticket sales. In recent months it feels like there's been a bit of a shift away from people booking in advance, and that can make organising concerts really stressful for those involved...

I'm very excited to let you know that the new album single for Esteesee will be released on Wednesday following it's first airplay on the BBC Radio 2 #FolkShow with Mark Radcliffe

The independent folk shows that have been a huge support over the past two years and I really like the idea of sending listeners on a bit of a folk radio-show treasure hunt…! So I’ve compiled 14 independent radio shows than are on air in a consecutive order between Monday 17th August and Friday 28th August, and each station is going to play one exclusive track from the new album in consecutive order. Then on Monday 31st of August all the radio stations get the full CD to share with listeners before the official release on September 24th.

It may be the geek in me or the geek I live with (Rob is a web developer by trade) but for whatever reason… I do love a good website and combining that with my love of folk, I have become a bit of a ‘folk geek’ so you can imagine my excitement when I stumbled across ‘Mainly Norfolk’.

I'm absolutely delighted to have been offered a Creative Artist Residency by EFDSS (The English Folk Dance and Song Society). Over a period of five-days with Lukas Drinkwater and Steve Pledger we'll be researching and developing new song ideas and material based on stories from newspapers of the day.

Necklaces custom made with my logo! These were made to my design and measure about 3.2cm in diameter and come on a chain. I wore the master cast of this design to the 2015 Folk Awards :)

This week's #FolkFavourite is ‘Blues & Roots Radio’... an online radio station based in Port Credit, Mississauga, ON, Canada with offices in Australia and the United Kingdom. It hosts a number of folk shows hand picked from the cream of the folk world and gives them an international platform opening avenues for artists to be heard all over the world and for presenters to reach a much wider audience.

It’s been really hard to try and stay connected with everyone while I’m in the studio. Weekdays are spent in the studio, evenings preparing for the following day, and weekends spent catching up with the family and children. So… I’ve got a few new things I’m going to try and do to stay in touch.

In case you missed it (or blocked me on Twitter for talking about it too much... if you did, it's okay... they're over... come back!) this time last week I was at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards where I was nominated for the Horizon Award.

The ‘Up and Right’ mini tour was a huge success, Rob and I took our little VW Golf, laden with a full PA kit, 3 guitars, a bodhran, Shruti box, set of whistles, several bags of clothes and a cuddly fox named Alan that we collected on our travels from the rolling hills of Somerset to the beautiful shores of Tynemouth.

So… I can’t quite believe I’m saying this… but I’ve just been nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
