After the loss of some of our artistic greats this year, yet another left us this week, Frank Kelly. This song reflects on the undying legacy left behind by creative souls:
Nobody gets out alive,
Someone once said, and it's true,
But I thought if anyone could that it might be you
You were larger than life on the screen,
The passage of time you defied
And I saw the fate of us all when I heard you'd died
But for all that you leave behind
For that which never will fade
We're grateful and glad you were here,
For the time that you stayed
Your songs they gave voice to my soul
I know of no higher praise
When you sang you carried me through my darkest days
As the needle must follow the groove
'Til the music at last fades away
We're only just passing through, what we leave here will stay
So for all that you leave behind
For that which never will fade
We're grateful and glad you were here,
For the time that you stayed
To those who are gone, although not departed;
To the taken-too-soon and the too-broken-hearted,
You left us an undying flame
And in our own way, may we all do the same
So for all that you leave behind
For that which never will fade
We're grateful and glad you were here,
For the time that you stayed.
